A XXX Fitness Workout That Will Make Your Knees Weak

Sorry to disappoint but it is not the XXX you are thinking and no, I am not talking about pole dancing classes either! What I am talking about is over the weekend I had the privilege to attend a workshop and be trained as an instructor on the Trixter X bike.

Now, those of you that know me know how much I love to teach indoor cycle. Well, let me tell you, the X bike and the workouts that come along with the training are awesome. It has been a long time since I had such a great workout cycling indoors and I absolutely LOVED working out on the X bike. My quads were on fire and I was dripping with sweat after 30 minutes. If you are a little crazy like me you just love it when you get off totally spent.

Okay, so what I find so unique and different about the X bike is the fact the workout is much more engaging. The X bike is different from other bikes on the market in several ways. First, the X bike does not have a fixed fly wheel. It is set up like a normal bike and the gear shifter adds resistance. Let’s just say you can’t cheat on this bike and after 30 minutes your quads are on fire. Another great aspect that differentiates this bike from others is the fact the handle bars moved from left to right and allow you to engage your core and upper body. The finally aspect is the programming is really unique.

Now, not only is the workout more engaging but the programming is unique. There are three levels starting with the 30 minute X program and working up to the hour long XXX advanced program. I can tell you after experiencing all three programs that each one is unique, different and challenging, which gives beginners to advanced cyclists a great workout.

The final thing that I loved so much about the Trixter X bike is the VRX biking program. If you are a club owner or fitness program director you have got to check this out. The VRX biking is like a virtual ride outdoors. Not only is it a unique and something that differentiates your club and group exercise programming, but it serves another purpose as well. Instead of seeing your cycle room sit empty and only used when you have a class the VRX biking allows you to have the virtual trainer taking members through a routine whenever you want to have the video running. This helps maximum revenue and expense per square foot. Also, as you well know, more and more of the virtual fitness training is where the industry is moving and the VRX biking is a great way to integrate that into your club.

So in conclusion, all I can say is you have to at least try the X bike and see for yourself what I am talking about. If you are an owner or fitness manager and want to learn more about the Trixter bikes feel free to contact me or an independent dealer for more info.

Do you devalue your services?

I am always amazed at how many fitness clubs and personal trainers follow the herd. Out of the hundreds of clubs I have visited over the years maybe only a handful of clubs do not sell packages for their services (i.e personal training). When I ask owners or managers why they sell packages the response I always seem to get is, “well that is what such and such club does, so we have to offer that.” Let me ask you this, “do doctors offer packages for seeing them multiple times?” No, and you shouldn’t either. I just read an article on Club Industry’s web site that talks about consumers ready to spend more in 2011. Go read it when you have a chance and realize this, if you provide a service that people value then you should charge what you think it is worth and that will lead me to my final point today.

I want to leave you today asking yourself this question, “why is 10 sessions worth $50, but one session is worth $65?” Are you providing the same value during each service? Does over ten sessions the time you spent learning Anatomy and Physiology diminish? No, and that is why you need to stop following the herd and devaluing your services. If you don’t have the ability to set your rates I understand but if you do, then you should feel confident in what you are charging and stick to it. You service is worth what you believe it is worth. If you don’t have that confidence you will struggle long term in the fitness business.

Will 2011 be a great year

As a kid I loved the movie “Back to the Future”. I mean how cool would it be to have a DeLorean that could take you back in time or into the future! Unfortunately, the reality is we do not have a time machine to allow us to travel back to the past or into the future. However, we do have the ability to create the kind of future we want to have for ourselves. I know many people have been struggling and have all but given up on their dreams of a better life, but before you do that, let me tell you about an event I went to over the weekend that really gave me a boost of optimism for 2011.

Over the weekend I attended a Charles Schwab trading forum event. For me, I have always loved the stock market and investing. The conference was great and I am now going to start doing some different trading in my account. I know for most of you putting your money in a mutual fund and have someone manger is all you want to do but for me I like to do some of my own investing. Okay, I don’t want to get off to far from my main point here, so let me tell you about the best part of the event.

The best part of the event was the keynote speaker, Tyler Matheson. Tyler, is a CNBC journalist and anchor of the show “Power Lunch.” Tyler talks to some of the most respected CEO’s and government officials all over the world. So, when it comes to seeing what the future business climate might be like, Tyler is a great resource.

Matheson shared with us several things and here are some of his findings. According to Matheson, growth should pick up, consumers are finally starting to open their wallets again, and companies are starting to hire again. This is all great news but there was one last thing that he said that really hit a nerve with me and got me optimistic about the future.

As Matheson was closing his speech he wrapped it up by talking about some of the struggles this country has had during its existence. One of those periods was the years 1980-1982. Now, I realize some of us were to young to remember or maybe not even born, but for those that do remember he said, “back in the early 80’s people thought America was at its darkest, but looking back, we now know the biggest technological revolution began and we had the biggest expansion in capitalism.” At that moment I felt some goose bumps and a sense of optimism of what the future can be like. How true, in my life experiences just when I think to myself things are so bad something happens and my life bounces back into prosperity.

So, will 2011 be a great year? I believe it will but more than anything you have to believe. If you have had a negative attitude towards everything that has happened in the last two years you need to let it go. If you realize that everything goes in cycles and that when you seem to be at your last wit or darkest moment you are on your way back to prosperity.

Are you scared of dying?

Last week I was able to realize a dream of mine that I have had for a long time and that was to speak at a major trade show. I spoke to a group of fitness professionals on how to think strategically and plan for the future in regards to their departments. The event went great and I was really pumped about doing well on my presentation.

Also, the other great think about the event was, I was able to hear Richard Simmons and Bill Rancic speak, which both have great stories and shared a lot of great advice.

However, the main thing I want to talk about today is in my video. Watch and tell me what you think. Are you scared of dying?

Are you like a Lawn Mower?

My Lawn Mower

I just fininshed mowing my lawn and I said this a couple of weeks ago on my Facebook page but for me mowing the lawn is so therapeutic. Her is  a picture of my lawn mower and yard. As you can see I have quite a bit to mow, so it allows me to focus and think about what it is I want to accomplish in my lifetime.

My Yard

Now, my dad would laugh at me because when he was alive he owned his own commericial landscape business and they would consider my yard puny. They would do my lawn just for the fun of it!

Anyway, as I was mowing my yard I was thinking about an article I read last week in Dan Kennedy’s marketing newsletter. In the article he made reference to Walt Disney. He said, “Walt Disney had described most people as lawn mowers.” Interesting!  He goes on to say that Disney said, ” People start each week at one end of the same patch of grass and plod along, back and forth, back and forth, head down, until week’s end at the other side of the lawn, then next week is the same all over again. Wow, I started to think, man that is exactly what I had been doing for some time now.

You see, the week is going to end anyway, why not do something everyday that is different, creative, and interesting. Why not do something that is beneficial to to others as well as yourself. Make your days matter?

Ask yourself this, and I do this constantly, “If you had six months to live what would you want to do with the rest of your days here?”

Seriously, would you stay in a job that gives you no fulfillment or rewards?

Would you spend more time with family?

Would you call a friend you have spoken to in awhile?

Whatever it is, start mowing differently and choose to get everything out of life!

Now, summer is almost over and my days of mowing are coming to end. Anyone have any ideas as to how I am going to get my therapy?
