How to build your own paid membership site

Have you been thinking about building your own paid membership site? If not, you should, because it is one way to help build a tribe of followers, and it also allows you to create a passive revenue stream for your business. Now, there are two ways you can go about building a membership site. One ,is the traditional method where you create a website, continuously load it up with content, and get clients and other people to join. I know what you are thinking, “Way too much work and why would anyone want to join.” I agree, but I found a better approach to a membership site.

Several months ago I was introduced to a guy named Jimmy D. Brown and his concept of building a “fixed term membership site.” Essentially, what “fixed term” means is you decide how long the membership lasts. Jimmy states, that most people stay on average between 3-4 months as a member of a site. So, in order to make them feel more comfortable about joining, you give them a time frame. By having a time frame your clients will know that they will not be adding another monthly recurring bill to their credit card and when the term is over they are done. Also, a fixed term membership site helps you manage your time and effort. When you create a fixed term site ,you do not have to add a bunch of content all at once, but instead add content on a weekly basis. Once the initial work is done all you have to do is get subscribers to join and begin to see a passive income stream develop.

Okay, I know there are tons of  questions going on in your mind, so take a look at my membership site Working Mom Workouts and see how I am focusing on a niche, Working Moms, and  how I send workouts to them once they join.

Now that you had a chance to see my site it is time for you to considered what you can do. Here are some questions you need to ask yourself to get you started brainstorming for your fixed term membership site:

  • First, what are you passionate about?
  • What are you the best at (Expert)?
  • Is there a market for that?
  • Do I have 5-10 hours a week to devote to building a site?
  • Will I see the project through completion?

These are just a few questions to ask yourself to get you on the path towards your own fixed term membership site. Obviously, there is more that goes into starting up a site, but that is far too extensive to get into in one blog post. If you are interested in learning more about how to set up your own membership you can go through my coaching program where I can walk you through step by step and help have your membership site up in less than 48 hours form when we speak!

If You Want More Sales Create More Credibility

One of the most critical aspects to getting more personal training clients and more sales with either your products or services is to build credibility with your prospects and clients.

CREDIBILITY – Some people might say it is the most important characteristic for a personal trainer to have and establish. Because of all the infomercials and the get fit fast scams, the fitness industry lacks credibility. That’s why it is essential from the second you meet a prospect to establish credibility with them. You must no longer look as yourself as just a trainer or sales person, but also as a consultant. You see, people view consultants as problem solvers and experts.

Action Item – Ask yourself this question: “In the eyes of the prospect, what have I done to establish credibility?”

Now, there are many ways to do this and especially with the explosion of social media and technology but there is no better way to help with credibility then to have other people build it for you. Check out this article that was published in the Orlando Sentinel, which sites a publication from the Harvard Medical School saying that, ” A personal trainer can be a great investment.” This is a great article to tweet to your followers or hand out to prospects to help build that credibility.

Are you going to be spooked forever?

I am sitting here the eve before the eve of Halloween and watching all the scary ads from the politicians on TV. As much as we hate the political ads that are constantly running on TV before the election, the truth of the matter is, politicians know they work and that is why the blast them nonstop.

Now, I am not going to talk politics today, but what I want do want to talk to you about today is, your mind set. Let me ask you a simple question, “Do you dwell on the fact that things are not going to get better?”  The reason I am asking this question is because I saw a poll that said people are less optimistic today then a few years ago about whether or not they would be able to live the America Dream. I was kinda baffled by this. I mean we live in the greatest country in the world and the potential for greatness has never been better. We have so many more advantages then are grandparent and parents did that it is unconscionable to me to think that the American Dream is dead! And for those of you that are hoping that the election will change that then think again. It doesn’t matter what political affiliation you have government is never going to be the answer. If you want a better life or better career it is up to you!  You have to choose whether or not you are going to continue to be spooked by all the negative things around you or whether or not you are going to step up today and decide to move forward with your career, life, and relationships. I believe things are going to get better, but that is my choice in believing that. I once heard a quote from someone who said, “Any day above ground is a great one!”

So, let me challenge you today! Decide today is going to better, start dreaming again!

Okay before I go let me tell you a little something about me that you may not know. Several years ago I started doing this with my clients and it worked for them and myself. Typically this time of year people start to check out and put everything off until the New Year. Well, what I did was set my New Year’s goals and start my New Year on Nov 1st! Yes, two months before everyone else. The main reason I started this was to help me get through the holidays when sometimes it is tough to stay focused. This approach also worked well with my health and fitness goals because it helped me keep a balanced approached on my eating.

Now, this might not work for you, but do me a favor and don;t wait until election day to start believing in bigger and better things. Start believing that things are going to be great today!

As we say in the fitness industry it is never too late to start exercising and changing your lifestyle. That principle is the same for you personally.

On Monday I am going to be sharing with you a few things  I have planned for my New Year! See you then!

Are you like a Lawn Mower?

My Lawn Mower

I just fininshed mowing my lawn and I said this a couple of weeks ago on my Facebook page but for me mowing the lawn is so therapeutic. Her is  a picture of my lawn mower and yard. As you can see I have quite a bit to mow, so it allows me to focus and think about what it is I want to accomplish in my lifetime.

My Yard

Now, my dad would laugh at me because when he was alive he owned his own commericial landscape business and they would consider my yard puny. They would do my lawn just for the fun of it!

Anyway, as I was mowing my yard I was thinking about an article I read last week in Dan Kennedy’s marketing newsletter. In the article he made reference to Walt Disney. He said, “Walt Disney had described most people as lawn mowers.” Interesting!  He goes on to say that Disney said, ” People start each week at one end of the same patch of grass and plod along, back and forth, back and forth, head down, until week’s end at the other side of the lawn, then next week is the same all over again. Wow, I started to think, man that is exactly what I had been doing for some time now.

You see, the week is going to end anyway, why not do something everyday that is different, creative, and interesting. Why not do something that is beneficial to to others as well as yourself. Make your days matter?

Ask yourself this, and I do this constantly, “If you had six months to live what would you want to do with the rest of your days here?”

Seriously, would you stay in a job that gives you no fulfillment or rewards?

Would you spend more time with family?

Would you call a friend you have spoken to in awhile?

Whatever it is, start mowing differently and choose to get everything out of life!

Now, summer is almost over and my days of mowing are coming to end. Anyone have any ideas as to how I am going to get my therapy?
