10 great happenings from last year cont…

Earlier in the week I posted the 10 Great Happenings from Last Year and today I want to write the second part to that post. Doing this exercise was very rewarding to me because I realized that no matter how bad the economy seemed at times this past year many great things happened in my life. I hope that is true with you as well. If you have never done this exercise I suggest you take 30 minutes out of your day and write down at least 10 great happenings from last year. Okay, here is my list:

1.) Published my first book “Anatomy of Sales”

2.) Launched my website and business www.davemcgarry.com

3.) Took a vacation trip to Sanibel Island with my wife

4.) Sold my first 50 books

5.) Had my first online book purchase on ClickBank

6.) First Family trip to Sea World

7.) Won a four day all paid conference trip to the fitness industries biggest trade show

8.) Promoted to Assistant GM of the Cooper Fitness Center at Craig Ranch

9.) Asked by the publisher of Club Industry to write articles for them in 2010

10.) Took 4 family trips in 2009

Every time I look at this list it makes me feel good because when I look back to what I wanted to accomplish this year I accomplished most of my goals. So, after you have your list of 10 great things the next step is to write down 5  lessons you learned from last year. This exercise will be important towards setting your 2010 goals. Okay, go write down your 5 lessons learned and we will talk about those lessons and how to use that information towards creating your best year ever in 2010.

The Power of Planning

With college graduation approaching it reminds me of a time in my life where I had no real clue as to what I was going to do after I graduated. Up until this point I had a goal of being the first person in my family to graduate college. I was stoked that I had just finished an internship at the Cooper Fitness Center and was now ready to graduate and head into the real world. The only problem I was not sure if I wanted to work with athletes or wanted to do personal training. As you know by now I went the personal training route; however, when I first started I had no plan. It was not until I read Stephen Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” that I started to plan. Also, I wrote a post awhile back titled “The Fastest Way to a Six Figure Income, which summarizes the study conducted by Harvard and showed the power of planning. I suggest you read it and see for yourself the remarkable results. Okay Dave, if planning is so important show me what I need to consider for my individual plan.

A.) Yearly – You need a plan for the entire year and the following should be included:

  1. desired annual income
  2. personal development
  3.  professional development

B.)Monthly

  1. needed monthly income
  2. planned events
  3. unplanned events
C.) Weekly
  1. needed weekly sessions
  2. adapt and overcome
D.) Daily
  1. DMO – Daily Method of Operation
  2. Consistency

More about me

Okay, so here is a little more about me. I am a husband (9 years), father of 2 ( I have a 3 year old and a 5 month old). Yes, I am getting sleep again! Thanks for asking! Hehe! Also, I am currently the Fitness Director at the Cooper Fitness Center at Craig Ranch. I have been in the fitness industry since graduating from the University of Florida. My initial start was as a personal trainer at a small private personal training studio in Orlando. After eight months I moved to Dallas and worked as a personal trainer and manager for the Premier Athletic Club in Dallas. It was around this time that I began to grow a passion for managing and business. I acted on that passion and went back to school and graduated with an MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Enough bio let’s get to the fun stuff. I love College football or let’s say Gator Football! Living in Texas has made me acquire a love for Tex-mex. Don’t worry mom, my favorite is still your Italian meatballs!

I started to read more once I graduated from school. My goal is to get to the point that I can read one book a week for a whole year.

I can’t get enough of reading, listening, and learning from self-help gurus.

I have been trying, unsuccessfully as of this writing, to invest in stocks.

I love to travel. I have been to Germany and Ireland but have Italy on my bucket list. Also, my goal is to visit every state. So far I am half way there!

Favorite movie is Gladiator and Remember the Titans.

Have an interest in politics or at least I used to! Not so sure anymore with all the bickering back and forth.

I Love my family and friends!

Finally, I  am really excited about this blog and helping people.

Say tuned for more!
