What Could Your Life Be Like 5 Years From Now?

I was inspired to write this post because today, June 29 th 2012 is the iPhone’s 5 year anniversary. Now I am not an early adopter so I did not get the iPhone when it first came out, and no I don’t wait in line for things either, but when I purchased my first iPhone I said to myself, “Where have you been all my life! ” I know, maybe a little extreme but I was just shocked at everything the iPhone can do and allows me to do in my business. So, what do you think the iPhone’s impact has been on  the world in the last 5 years?

Happy 5 Year Anniversary iPhone

Some people will tell you it has revolutionized the world and made it smaller and more connected. Others might tell you it has made people less engaged in human interaction and more engaged in themselves and silly games. Regardless of where you stand the past five years of the existence of the iPhone has changed the world and changed Apple as a company. So what am I getting at here? Well, what I want to get across today is that your life can be dramatically different 5 years from now but for that to happen you need to make a choice.

If you want to change the current situation you are in then you have to make the decision today to do that. Although it may be the iPhone’s 5 year birthday the planning for that started over a decade ago. The choices you make and the actions you take today can dramatically change your life 5 years from now. I have said this before and I will say it again it has never been easier to start a business then it is today. Technology and the internet makes it easier than ever. I know a girl who builds Amazon affiliate sites and sells them to people. Her cost to this is her time and she works out of her house. The future is in your hands and if you are wanting to have your life in your hands consider starting an online business. I can’t express in words how thankful I am that I started my online business but it all started with me taking action one day.

So here is what you need to do right now. No, not tomorrow, right now.

1.) Make the decision to start your own business.

2.) Begin with the end in mind. What I mean by that is visualize where do you want to be in 5 years from now. Get specific about it. Don’t just say I want to have a successful business in 5 years, really nail down what it will look like such as, you will employ 10 people, gross $10,000 and have multiple products for sale. The more specific the better.

3.) Build a plan to get there.

4.) Take action everyday that gets you one step closer to your ultimate goal

5.) Never, ever quit!

That is all my friends and I can’t wait to see what the next 5 years brings to you!

What Kind of Choices Are You Making in Your Small Business

Happy Friday everyone!

Today, I wanted to bring you a quick video from one of my mentors. John Maxwell is an expert on leadership and has written a number of best selling books. He also puts out these short videos in which he calls them ” A Minute with Maxwell.” I really like these short videos because in them he communicates a powerful lesson in just a minutes time. So, today I wanted to introduce to his “Minute with Maxwell.” Plus, I wanted to share with you this particular one he talks about because as a small business owner we do this everyday.

So, let me ask you, “What choices are you making today that will enhance your business?” Has the economy brought you done and have you blaming it for your lack of success? Trust me, I know how easy it is to fall into that trap, but as Maxwell says, “It is your personal responsibility for the choices you make.”

Think about that over the weekend and we will see you next week. Until then remember it is the choices you make that will determine your success!

To your success,
Coach Dave

Are you remarkable

Let me ask you a question, “If you were driving down the road and saw a cow, would you stop?” No, you have seen thousands of cows before, but “what if you were continuing to drive down the road and saw a purple cow, would you stop?” Maybe, or at least slow down and see what the heck is that. What I am getting at here today, on another edition of Open Blog Friday, is the idea of being remarkable! Yesterday, someone whom I follow on Facebook shared this video by Seth Godin and I remembered hearing him back at IHRSA several years ago talking about this idea. I have posted the video for you below but want to talk briefly today about how being remarkable can make a difference in your life and business.

The video takes place back in 2003 but is still completely relevant. Probably, even more so today! Why? Well, for one, the club market has become saturated and consumers have way too many choices. And secondly, consumers have a ton of choices and want to be inspired by something new and different. This is why you need to differentiate your product and service. Otherwise, if consumers don’t see a difference they will have no other choice but to make it about price. Now, if we leave it up to being all about price, we are destined to fall as an industry. Here is where being remarkable comes into play!

All right, I have posted the video below and want you to watch it. Now, as you are watching it, begin to think of ways you can become remarkable? Think of ways you can stand out from the herd and be something that people want to belong to. If we all put a little more effort into being remarkable this world we be a better place!

If you have examples of how you or your club is being remarkable please share below with your comments!

Make it a great weekend!
Coach Dave!

Talent is Never Enough

Do you think success is totally based on talent? Well, contrary to what most believe, it is not and a great book, by John Maxwell, “Talent Is Never Enough: Discover the Choices That Will Take You Beyond Your Talent“, shows how individual choice and actions are what makes the difference. I can not agree with him more. Over the years that I have been working with personal trainers I consistently see talented trainers fail in this industry. Why? Well, I believe it is the choices and actions they take. You see, talented people have a tendency to rest on their laurels and coast along only one day to wake up and realize it is too late. So, if you don’t want this to happen to you find your  passion and take initiative today to fulfill your dreams. You can make the difference, so keep moving forward and ignite your talent!!
