Part II of 7 tips to getting more personal training clients

Yesterday, I presented to you the first three of the seven tips to getting more personal training clients. So, today I am going to give you two tips that could be the most important money making tips for your personal training business. Yes, I believe these next two tips will separate you from everyone else. Okay here is tip number 4 and 5.

4.) Create a blog- by now everyone has heard of blogs but not everyone has one and contributes regularly to it. The reason having a blog is so important is that you create a platform to share information, articles, and ideas about who you are and what you believe in. Now this is not a “how to start a blog post” but if you want some great info or program to create your blog then you need to check out Darrren Rowse’s 31 days to Build a Better Blog Click here to view more details. Once you have your blog set up make sure all your clients subscribe to it and tell them that you will post regularly to it. The number one goal is to provide valuable content that adds value to the relationship you have with your clients.

5.) Write an ebook – It has never been easier to write a book. The technology we have today allows you to write your own book and self publish it. You can make it an e-book or a traditional hardback and market and distribute it online. Writing an e-book will do two things for you. One, you will be recognized as an expert and gain tremendous credibility. The second benefit will be that you now can gain new clients with out even training. You essentially will have created another passive income stream while not having to wake up at 6 am to train. Once again this is not a “how to” article on writing an ebook but if you want more info on that email me at Dave@DaveMcGarry.com and I will consult with you on how to get started. Now, since I believe in leading by example you can check out my ebook at www.anatomyofsales.com . Good luck and start writing.

Your “Big Idea”

I just got back from vacation and I am refreshed and all fired up again. It is amazing what happens to you mentally when you get away from the daily grind and recharge the batteries. Okay, well what I want to talk to you about today is creating your “Big Idea”. What I am referring to is Donny Deutsch’s show and book called “The Big Idea.” I have seen the show many times and read the book over the holiday weekend. The stories are motivational and inspiring for anyone who wants to be more and create their own business. So, here is my question for you. What is your “Big Idea”? If you want to make a difference in this world and be more than “just a trainer” then you need to find what you can contribute to this world. Once you find your ‘Big Idea” start moving to create it and just by moving you will start down the path of greatness. Here is how to start thinking about your “Big Idea”:

What are you passion about?

Maybe it is working with kids, and if so, maybe you can create a healthier snack for kids or maybe create a pre-school that focuses on physical education and rudimentary skills, as well as the other skills kids need. My point is create something that really gets your blood boiling.

What need is missing in the industry?

What can you improve that already exists?

What segment of the market is being undeserved?

These are some questions for you to answer to get you to start thinking about your “Big Idea”. Quit sitting around waiting for something to happen. Use your skills and strengths to create something big. Each and everyone one of us was put here to make a difference. So get moving and if you ned some help feel free to post or email me.

Create your own luck

Do you believe that luck plays a major role in your success? Well, if you think that only lucky people are successful, you need to start thinking differently. People who are successful put themselves into situations to reap opportunities that arise, and once presented with an opportunity their knowledge and skills allow them to make good decisions. In a previous post “Learning Never Ends” I tell new trainers and interns, the best piece of advice I received early in my career, was to never stop learning. I believe that the success I have achieved to this point has been attributed to that discipline. Another key to creating your own luck is to have a great attitude. I recently read a quote by Joe Cirulli, Gainesville Health and Fitness CEO, about what his thoughts on the economy were and how it is going to affect his business. He said, in their company values they preach this quote, ” We are the creators of our own future.” I could not have said it any better and if you want to be successful then you need to create your own luck.

Here are some other approaches to make luck work for you:

Create a mind map

Have a plan

Learn from your past and your failures

Always believe in yourself and your abilities

Network, Network, Network – I have had three jobs in my career and they have all been because I knew someone that knew the person who was looking to hire a trainer.

Finish – The journey is never over. The biggest mistake people make is that they give up too soon. As I mention in my book “Anatomy of Sales”  I almost gave up on the fitness industry but hanging on has now led me to where I am today.

Top Ten Things You Need to do Right Now

  1. Believe in yourself
  2. Quit Listening to all the Naysayers
  3. Set Goals
  4. Write out a plan to get to your goals
  5. Share your goals with your closest frieds and family
  6. Read and listen to motivational books
  7. Keep a journal on thoughts and happenings
  8. Review and reflect your journal
  9. Finish Strong
  10. Win

Learning never ends!

With College graduation fast approaching I came across a really great article that every needs to read whether you are graduating now, a recent graduate, or someone who needs a fresh reminder of what it takes to be successful in today’s fast technological economy. I hope you really take to heart what Dennis Waitley has to say here. Let me know your thoughts.

The Winner’s Edge Coaching Tips

The acquisition of knowledge, which is the new global power, is a life-long experience, not a collection of facts or skills. Not long ago, what you learned in school was largely all you needed to learn to secure a career. With knowledge expanding exponentially, this is no longer true. For example, hundreds of scientific papers are published daily.

Every thirty seconds, some new technological company produces yet another innovation. Your formal education has a very short shelf life. Life-long learning, once a luxury for the few, has become absolutely vital to continued success. Continue gaining expertise and avoid thinking like an expert.

In a world of e-mail, fax dispersal, voice mail, sound bites, concise reports, business plans, and meeting briefs, the individuals who can articulate their goals, substantiate their claims, and support their visions, will own the future. In the 21st Century, literacy will be the major difference between the haves and have-nots.

Why do fewer than 10 percent of the public buy and read nonfiction books? One reason is that many would rather get home than get ahead. They are motivated to get by and get pulled along by the company, the economy, or the government.

Another reason is that many individuals believe that information found in books, computer programs, and training sessions has no value in the business world. How self-deluding!

Action Idea – Increase Your Reading, Writing and Vocabulary Proficiency. One of the most important qualities of successful leaders is an ability to express thoughts and knowledge. Research by management and human resource experts confirms that no matter what the field of employment, people with large vocabularies – those able to speak clearly and concisely, using simple as well as descriptive words – are best at accomplishing their goals. Well chosen, carefully considered words can close the sale, negotiate the raise, enhance relationships, and change destinies.
