Your “Big Idea”

I just got back from vacation and I am refreshed and all fired up again. It is amazing what happens to you mentally when you get away from the daily grind and recharge the batteries. Okay, well what I want to talk to you about today is creating your “Big Idea”. What I am referring to is Donny Deutsch’s show and book called “The Big Idea.” I have seen the show many times and read the book over the holiday weekend. The stories are motivational and inspiring for anyone who wants to be more and create their own business. So, here is my question for you. What is your “Big Idea”? If you want to make a difference in this world and be more than “just a trainer” then you need to find what you can contribute to this world. Once you find your ‘Big Idea” start moving to create it and just by moving you will start down the path of greatness. Here is how to start thinking about your “Big Idea”:

What are you passion about?

Maybe it is working with kids, and if so, maybe you can create a healthier snack for kids or maybe create a pre-school that focuses on physical education and rudimentary skills, as well as the other skills kids need. My point is create something that really gets your blood boiling.

What need is missing in the industry?

What can you improve that already exists?

What segment of the market is being undeserved?

These are some questions for you to answer to get you to start thinking about your “Big Idea”. Quit sitting around waiting for something to happen. Use your skills and strengths to create something big. Each and everyone one of us was put here to make a difference. So get moving and if you ned some help feel free to post or email me.

First Class Service

What can you learn from flying first class and how can you apply it to your  business?

Well, let me tell you I finally get it! This past week I had to fly to Orlando due to the passing of my Grandfather and I flew first class. This was only the second time I have had the opportunity to fly first class but what an experience. Now, it did not come cheap. We had to use a lot of our miles, as well as pay a small fee, but the airline made it worth it. The reason the airlines make it worth the money is because the airline companies know that the first class passengers spend the most money and are probably the most loyal. This is what you need to take note of. Most sales professionals and trainers spend way too much time and effort on getting new clients and don’t realize that they need to spend more time on giving their current clients first class service.

Why, you ask? Well, the clients who train with you the most are going to continue to train with you, and will also continue to spread the good news about you. So, what can you do to start creating first class service?

Here are a few things:

1.) Send a thank you card to your clients – a spontaneous card thanking them is a very nice gesture, which shows you took the time out of your schedule to show your appreciation.

2.) Comp them a personal training session – Set a number of sessions trained and after they hit that number give them a comp session.

3.) Give them a small gift – you can get creative here and you do not need to spend a lot of money here. Remember it is all about the gesture.

4.) Start a distribution list and send them motivational quotes and articles.

5.) Remember kids names, birthdays, anniversaries, etc… Use this to send emails, cards, and congratulations when you are talking to them.

Now, these are just a few ideas, but the point here is you need to go above and beyond to create memorable and positive experiences for your clients. The airlines have been providing first class service for a long time and they know how to get it right, so if you need to see what I am talking about fly first class and then start providing first class service.

Create your own luck

Do you believe that luck plays a major role in your success? Well, if you think that only lucky people are successful, you need to start thinking differently. People who are successful put themselves into situations to reap opportunities that arise, and once presented with an opportunity their knowledge and skills allow them to make good decisions. In a previous post “Learning Never Ends” I tell new trainers and interns, the best piece of advice I received early in my career, was to never stop learning. I believe that the success I have achieved to this point has been attributed to that discipline. Another key to creating your own luck is to have a great attitude. I recently read a quote by Joe Cirulli, Gainesville Health and Fitness CEO, about what his thoughts on the economy were and how it is going to affect his business. He said, in their company values they preach this quote, ” We are the creators of our own future.” I could not have said it any better and if you want to be successful then you need to create your own luck.

Here are some other approaches to make luck work for you:

Create a mind map

Have a plan

Learn from your past and your failures

Always believe in yourself and your abilities

Network, Network, Network – I have had three jobs in my career and they have all been because I knew someone that knew the person who was looking to hire a trainer.

Finish – The journey is never over. The biggest mistake people make is that they give up too soon. As I mention in my book “Anatomy of Sales”  I almost gave up on the fitness industry but hanging on has now led me to where I am today.

My Lucky Day

I consider today to be my lucky day! Why you ask? Well, today is the 3 year anniversary of my father’s passing and today I am grateful to still be here carrying out my purpose in life. You see, for the longest time I was fighting what I was put here to do and it took my father dying of a heart attack to realize that I am here to help change the health and wellness of this country and if I really dream big, the world! So today as a tribute to my dad I am giving away a copy of my ebook, “The Anatomy of Sales” to anyway who wants it. All you have to do is send me an email and put in the subject “My Lucky Day”.

If any one would like to share their story on how they found their purpose in life I would love to hear it!
